Concha
Designed, woven, and dyed by Wenceslao Martinez.
This piece was created after Wence Martinez encountered a snapping turtle in the wetlands behind the Wisconsin gallery. The design on the turtle's shell inspired the artist to weave Concha.
The use of cochineal to color the wool is representative of Wence's expertise in natural dyes.
Hand-spun, hand-dyed Oaxacan Churro wool, cochineal, natural grey, cream, tan, and black.
