Alas Gold
Designed, woven, and dyed by Wenceslao Martinez.
Assisted by Jacobo Martinez.
Alas Gold is part of the Alas series, a group of works inspired by bird wings against sunlight. On the artist’s balcony in Teotitlan, flocks of birds often line up to observe the mountain-ringed valley below. In Alas Indigo, the wool mimics their feathers. Colored yarns begin to break up the darks in the weaving, referencing crows' black and blue iridescence.
