Tres Alas

Designed, woven, and dyed by Wenceslao Martinez.

Assisted by Jacobo Martinez.

Tres Alas Gold is part of the Alas series, a group of works inspired by bird wings against sunlight. On the artist’s balcony in Teotitlan, flocks of birds often line up to observe the mountain-ringed valley below. In Tres Alas, the wool mimics their feathers. Colored yarns begin to break up the darks in the weaving, referencing crows' black and blue iridescence.

Hand Spun Oaxacan Churro wool, dyed with indigo, cochineal, pomegranate, natural cream, grey, tan, and black
